Water

Biochar can be used in soil or to directly intercept water flows, where it filters nitrates and other soluble pollutants. After it has reached saturation with nutrients it can then be used as a soil amendment, where the burden becomes a benefit to fertility instead of degrading freshwater resources.

Biochar on the farm

As one of our first initiatives beyond our own block, Slow Farm is working cooperatively with a farmer and with not-for-profit organisations to measure the water quality benefits provided by adding biochar "gabions" within constructed farm wetlands. Watch this space.
